Eighty-nine
percent of employers revealed that they would watch a video resume if it were
submitted to them. But only seventeen
percent of the eighty-nine percent have actually viewed a video resume. The good news is that the vast majority of
employers are receptive to viewing a video resume. (http://humanresources.about.com/od/recruitingandstaffing/qt/video_607_rs8.htm)
The first advantage of creating a video resume is the
resume shows you are investing time in pursuing your career. Secondly, submitting a video resume can give
your perspective employer a visual of not only your physical look, but also
your demeanor. Another important aspect
of sending a video resume is it allows your perspective employer to gage your
verbal skills and your ability to communicate effectively.
Disadvantages of submitting a video resume would be
the opposite of the advantages of submitting a video resume. If you do not appear professional, that could
be a major deterrent to a perspective employer.
Effective communicate is the most sought after soft skill needed for
most careers. If your video resume does
not show your ability to communicate effectively, that could also be a deterrent
to an employer.
In
conclusion, whether you choose to use the traditional method or untraditional
method, such as video resume, be diligent to present yourself in a professional
light.
