Social Networking

Social media sites all share the common goal of giving people the ability to connect.   Their reasoning for the connection may be for different reasons, but connectivity is their main goal.

·         Pinterest is a social bookmarking network whose mission is “to connect everyone in the world through the things they find interesting.” http://blog.performics.com/

·         Linkedin is a social network whose mission is “to connect the world's professionals to make them more productive and successful.” https://www.linkedin.com/about-us

o   LinkedIn has 364 million users, http://www.statista.com/statistics

·         Facebook is a social network whose mission is “to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected”. https://www.facebook.com/facebook

o   Facebook has 968 million users, http://www.statista.com/statistics

I believe Facebook has the most users because it encompasses both aspects of Pinterest and LinkedIn.  Like LinkedIn you can use Facebook as a social networking tool to meet other professional and as a recruiting tool.  Facebook like Pinterest is a venue to share with other users, things that you find interesting and how to do projects.

The positive of social networking is it has connected the world like never before.  It has given us the ability to witness the disparities and atrocities happening in not only our country, but all over the world.
As with all social networking sites the main con is the lack of respect for your fellow human being, when you don’t adhere to a code of ethics in all aspects of social networking.  It is imperative that you show respect and a sense of responsibility to what you post or how you respond to a post. The key to using social networking is to establish and stay connected in a positive and productive way that will accomplish the goal of connectivity.
